CHRISTA MCCARTHY

Go To Nations Missionary Serving IHOP Atlanta
2010 Graduate of Christ For The Nations

I graduated from Christ For The Nations Institute's mission program in the Fall of 2010 and went on to do my internship with Go To Nations that January. I joined Go To Nations when I returned to the States that May and I have been with them since.

I completed my two year apprenticeship in Burkina Faso, West Africa where I helped administrate and facilitate children's evangelism across the country. Our missionary team worked with nationals and trained them in starting a national children's evangelism movement throughout Burkina Faso. We conducted outreaches in unreached villages across the country.

We saw churches birthed through these outreaches and we quickly learned that children were the open door to many unreached villages. Our children's ministry also opened the door for us to go into a refugee camp and preach the gospel to a tribe called the Tuareg, one the most resistant tribes in West Africa. After months of providing food, schooling, and kids clubs, we boldly preached the Gospel to the children. It was amazing to see their young eyes light up as we told them for the first time about what Christ did for them. They asked questions as the Gospel slowly seeped into their mind.

I relocated to Iloilo, Philippines in 2014 where I served with a local church in a flood relocation site. I worked with two young girls in particular and helped train and build out the children and youth ministry within the local church through weekly meetings, youth retreats, worship nights, and children's summer camps.

During my time in the Philippines, I studied full-time on a local college campus which opened doors for me to share my life with the young people on the campus. I was able to share one-on-one with many students, as well as speak and encourage the young adults in multiple Bible studies started by the local churches. I was able to walk with students going through so many challenging moments, such as unwanted pregnancy, abuse, and depression. As they opened up to me, I was able to share my own story with them and how God took me through issues in my own life and how He meets us where we are.

In 2017, I relocated back to the States to serve with IHOP Atlanta where I am currently using my experience with Go To Nations in both Burkina and Iloilo to help them build out their home-base for their international missions arm called Finish the Task. I help with getting the administrative side of the organization in order, as well as help oversee 27 missionaries through Member Care Ministry.

I believe my education through Christ for the Nations partnered with my training and experience through Go to Nations has equipped me in my current role. I find myself resourcing the books, class notes, and advice from my previous leaders on a regular basis. Although I am no longer on the field, I can see how God has set me up to use my unique giftings to see the Gospel preached into the ends of the earth.
